Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu looks on as former beauty queen Lorraine Schuck (in light-colored dress) jumpstarts the nurturing of a Dau (Dracontomelon dao) seedling that she planted at the Heroes Park of the DENR during the agency’s 30th anniversary celebration on Friday. Schuck is the executive vice-president and one of the founders of Carousel Productions, which runs the Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth beauty pageants, and  partner of the DENR in promoting environmental programs and advocacies. Dau is a large native tree that provides shade to smaller trees. Also in photo are candidates of the Miss Philippines Earth 2017. ###

Molave (Vitex parviflora) is a local native species known for its quality hardwood used for furniture and other structures. ###

European Union Ambassador to the Philippines Franz Jessen (2nd from left) turns over prototypes of knowledge products on sustainable development goals to DENR Assistant Secretary for Foreign-Assisted and Special Projects Rommel Abesamis in simple ceremony held Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Quezon City.  The knowledge products, which are in the form of audio-visual presentations, leaflets, booklets and policy briefs, were developed by the National Inter-Agency Committee on Environmental Education, with support from the EU-Switch-Asia Policy Support Component Project. Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu administers the oath of office of the National Executive Officers of the Kalipunan ng mga Kawani sa Kagawaran ng Kalikasan (K4) during the flag raising ceremony held on June 5 at DENR grounds in Quezon City.  The oath taking coincided with the celebration of the World Environment Day and the nationwide observance of June as Philippine Environment Month.
