As a licensed forester and president of the DENR- Association of Career Executives (ACE), DENR Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and International Affairs puts to heart all efforts to reforest the country’s denuded areas as he leads fellow executives in the department in planting some 1,000 native tree species in a 10-hectares area within the Angat watershed in Norzagaray, Bulacan province. Held October 6, 2018, the tree planting event was one of three community-focused activities of DENR-ACE in celebration of its 45th founding anniversary of the Career Executive Service Board on November 10, with theme: “Serbisyong CESO, Kalibre 45: Community Passion Projects.” The other two activities include a massive mangrove planting rehabilitation in Nasugbu, Batangas and coastal clean-up in the Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area on October 13 and 20, respectively. ###

No words could describe the happiness written on the face of Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu as he watches the children of the Ati tribe play with each other in Brgy. Balabag in Boracay island. The DENR chief, who also chairs the Boracay Inter-agency Task Force, has repeatedly said that the rehabilitation of the world-famous paradise island is for the enjoyment of future generations. The government has particularly included the island’s Ati indigenous group, considered as native Aklanons, as beneficiaries to its livelihood and ecotourism programs. ###

NGP coffee table book launched webDepartment of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu (middle) presents copies of the “National Greening Program (NGP) : A Portrait of Hope and Success” to Pangasinan Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil and Davao Oriental Rep. Corazon Nuñez-Malanyaon, in gratitude for their key roles in the congressional approval of NGP’s annual budget. Cimatu led the launching of the 255-page coffee table book which features over 250 stunning photographs, grouped in five thematic chapters, that chronicle tales of improved lives and empowered communities through the program. On hand to assist Cimatu in the event are Forest Management Bureau Director Nonito Tamayo (left) and Food and Agriculture Organization Country Representative Jose Luis Fernandez (2nd from left). The event was held October 3, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Mandaluyong City. ###
