Environment Secretary Roy A. In his presentation, Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu discussed the current thrusts of DENR in helping the business sector to achieve sustainable development during the Membership Luncheon Meeting organized by the European Chamber of Commerce at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Among the topics Cimatu discussed include clean energy and its influence over the agency’s role to move forward, facilitating efficient environmental clearances for investors, addressing the issue of landfills and dumpsites through waste-to-energy, and the state of the country’s water resources. ###

National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) Executive Director Carmen Zubiaga (center) is joined by employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) during a tree planting activity for persons with disabilities (PWD) held on Saturday, June 10, at the Ninoy Aquino Park and Wildlife Center in Quezon City. The tree planting was held following the Freedom Walk staged by various PWD groups as part of the observance of the 119th Phlippine Independence and the 19th Philippine Environment Month  to raise public awareness of their human rights, including the right to clean air, clean water and quality environment. ###

Cimatu (center) leads the DENR family in recognizing former DENR secretaries and other officials whose able leadership has contributed to the achievement and realization of the agency’s mandate and vision during the 30th founding anniversary of the department on Friday in Quezon City.  Standing from left are: Victor O. Ramos, Eleazar P. Quinto, Elisea G. Gozun, Heherson T. Alvarez, Sec. Cimatu; Antonio H. Cerilles, Horacio C. Ramos, Ali Atienza representing Jose L. Atienza, Jr., and Engr. Juanito C. In a show of support for DENR field offices, Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu hands a symbolic key to DENR- Region 11 Director Ruth M. Tawantawan to signify the turnover of brand new vehicles, consisting of 59 motorcycles (inset) and 18 trucks,  to DENR regional offices.  Tawantawan received the key on behalf of the all the regional directors on Friday on the occasion of the DENR’s 30th founding anniversary. ###
