The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR) Bicol welcomed its new Officer-In-Charge (OIC), Regional Executive Director (RED) Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV in a turnover ceremony held at the DENR V Covered Court, Rawis, Legazpi City on June 19, 2020.
By virtue of Special Order No. 2020-292 dated June 5, 2020, OIC, RED Abawag succeeds Atty. Gil A. Aromin, CESO IV. RED Aromin served the DENR Bicol from January 11, 2019 until June 18, 2020.
Present during the turnover ceremony were Undersecretary for Field Operations, Enforcement and Muslim Affairs Jim O. Sampulna, CESO III and OIC, Assistant Secretary for Field Operations –Luzon Gilbert C. Gonzales, CESO III. Well-wishers including DENR Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V Regional Director (RD) Engr. Guillermo A. Molina, Jr., Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) V RD Engr. Maria Socorro A. Abu, Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for Management Services Engr. Eva S. Ocfemia, ARD for Technical Services Atty. Ronnel C. Sopsop, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs), Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (CENROs), Division Chiefs and employees from around the region were likewise physically present and via Zoom to witness another milestone in DENR Bicol as it embraces the new normal to fight the COVID 19 pandemic.
Undersecretary Sampulna appealed to all DENR Region 5 employees to work together to accomplish the agency's goals. Likewise, he enjoined all key officials to be compassionate and patient with their employees. “Your people are your best assets, because your people can make or break you,” he said.
Meanwhile, in his message, RED Aromin thanked everyone for the support extended to him during his short stint in Bicol. “It was a fruitful experience to serve DENR V. It was a smooth and easy journey,” he said. Meanwhile, incoming RED Abawag expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the employees for the warm welcome given to him. “Let us work together once again," RED Abawag said.
RED Abawag is a native of Camarines Sur and has also served DENR Bicol as RED from June 2018 to January 2019. He has been in the government service for 41 years.###*JNLoria
