The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of San Jacinto headed by OIC, CENRO Basil Cesar S. Camba led the celebration of this year’s International Day of Forest in partnership with the members of Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity and Sorority based in Ticao Island through the conduct of a Mangrove Tree Planting in Bongsanglay Natural Park (BongNP), Barangay Royroy, Batuan, Masbate on March 21, 2021.

SVEMS Ana P. Bartolay, who is also the concurrent Protected Area Superintendent of BongNP expressed her gratitude to the leadership of APO for considering the protected area as the site for the mangrove tree planting as part of their environmental advocacy. She added that the activity is also in line with the Park’s Management Plan to increase its forest cover.

A total of 250 Mangrove propagules were planted by twenty six (26) volunteers at the mudflat of Bongsanglay Natural Park.

This year’s theme, “Forest Restoration: a path to recovery and well-being” aims to create awareness on the importance of forest as it helps address the climate change and biodiversity issues. Forest also produces goods, creates job and improves lives.
