Waterbirds

OVER 13,000 WATERBIRDS SIGHTED DURING THE ANNUAL ASIAN WATERBIRD CENSUS IN BICOL. Over thirteen thousand (13,000) waterbirds were sighted during the recently conducted Annual Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) in the Bicol Region. The AWC in the region was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol led by the Conservation and Development Division (CDD) through its Protected Area Management and Biodiversity Conservation Section (PAMBCS) together with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs) and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs), various Local Government Units (LGUs) and some bird photographers. The identified sites were the Cabusao Critical Habitat at Cabusao, Camarines Sur, Naro and Chico Island Wildlife Sanctuaries at Cawayan, Masbate, Juban Wetlands Critical Habitat and Prieto Diaz Wetlands in Sorsogon, Mercedes Critical Habitat at Mercedes, Camarines Norte, Panganiban Wetlands at Panganiban, Catanduanes, Bongsanglay Natural Park at Batuan, Masbate, Lake Bato at Barangay Buga, Libon, Albay and Malison Lake in Ligao City, respectively.

Catanduanes Peace and OrderPENRO, LGU CATANDUANES STRENGTHEN PEACE AND ORDER. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Catanduanes headed by PENR Officer Imelda D. Baltazar participated in the conduct of the Provincial Peace and Order Council Committee meeting held at the Conference Hall, Governor’s Office, Province of Catanduanes. Updates on the fund utilization for CY 2021 Peace and Order Programs, Approval of Authority to Release Confidential Fund for CY 2022, and major accomplishments relative to the peace and order activities in the province as well as the status of insurgency were presented and discussed during the meeting. It was participated in by the members of the Peace and Order Committee, heads/representatives of other National Government Agencies (NGAs), law enforcers and other stakeholders. As a Covid-19 response measure and to protect the health of its employees, the Management Services (MS) Division led by Chief Ma. Juliet S. Araojo with the support of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Catanduanes headed by PENR Officer Imelda D. Baltazar, recently distributed Vitamin C tablets to all its personnel. PENRO Baltazar said that every employee was given thirty (30) tablets of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to serve as their daily dose of protection against common cold and other immune system deficiencies. “With the continuous threat of the pandemic, the Office deems it necessary that all our employees be protected from this dreaded virus through strengthening of their immune system,” PENRO Baltazar said. Press Release ENR Basic Course Jan 2022

DENR BICOL CONDUCTS 5TH ENR BASIC COURSE PROGRAM. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V through its Management Services (MS) headed by Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for MS Grace L. Cariño, Ph.D conducted the webinar on Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Basic Course Program on January 24 to 28, 2022. Some thirty-three (33) employees from the DENR V Regional and Field Offices including the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) V graduated in the 5th ENR Basic Course Program. The ENR Basic Course aims to capacitate DENR employees by maximizing their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses in terms of enhancing work commitment and ethical standards to boost the positive character of the Department in basic aspects of knowledge and sense of responsibility.
