WINNING IMAGE FOR THE IDBD 2022 PHOTO MARATHON CONTEST. A sleeping Philippine Forest Dragon (Gonocephalus sophiae) on a stem found in the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (BVNP) was one of the subjects of the DENR Bicol Team Oragon for the Kabahagi: An International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD) 2022 Capture Quest, a photo marathon contest organized by the DENR Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) in partnership with Canon Philippines. The straight-out-of-camera photo was the entry for the Detail Category and also one of the five photos, which won in the said Contest.

DENR BICOL BAGS GRAND PRIZE IN THE IDBD 2022 PHOTO MARATHON CONTEST. Among the 16 Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Offices nationwide, the DENR Bicol headed by Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla, Jr., CESO III was ajudged the grand winner in the Kabahagi: An International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD) 2022 Capture Quest, a photo marathon contest organized by the DENR Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) in partnership with Canon Philippines. The Kabahagi Photo Marathon Contest was a prequel event in celebration of the IDBD 2022 with the theme, "Building a shared future for all life," which aimed to showcase the beauty of protected areas in the regions. For Bicol Region, the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (BVNP) in Bulusan, Sorsogon was featured by the DENR Bicol Regional Team dubbed, "Team Oragon"." RED Milla in behalf of the Team, received the Php 50,000.00 cheque, and a brand new Canon camera during the awarding ceremony segment at the launching of the Year of the Protected Areas (YoPA) at the EDSA Shangrila, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.

Sor Coastal Clean UpOCEAN COASTAL CLEAN-UP IN SORSOGON YIELDS 71 KILOS OF TRASH. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Sorsogon headed by PENR Officer Tito R. Migo conducted a coastal clean-up activity in celebration of the Month of the Ocean 2022 with the theme, “Protect and Restore Ecosystem and Biodiversity” on May 17, 2022. The event was participated in by the representatives of Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP), residents of Panganiban, Gubat, Sorsogon, representatives from the Women’s Group, some students and youth volunteers, and PENRO Sorsogon personnel. “As a government agency, the DENR is mandated to craft and implement programs policies towards environmental protection but the Office cannot do it alone. We need the help and commitment of the community and other stakeholders to ensure that this planet will have greener forests and bluer seas,” he added. A total of 71.25 kilograms of solid wastes were collected after the clean-up activity. (With report from PENRO Sorsogon)

IECPENRO CAM NORTE CONDUCTS INFORMATION DRIVE IN CELEBRATION OF MONTH OF THE PLANET EARTH. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Camarines Norte headed by OIC, PENR Officer Marlon C. Francia recently spearheaded a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) Campaign at Brgy. Salvacion, Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte as part of the celebration of the Month of the Planet Earth with the theme, “Invest in our Planet”. The activity was participated in by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation members, Local Government Unit (LGU) personnel of Jose Panganiban, and Barangay LGU of Salvacion, Camarines Norte. The topics discussed include Philippine Biodiversity, Climate Change, Mangroves and Seagrass Ecosystems, Land Titling, and various environmental laws. (With report from PENRO Camarines Norte)

113 KILOS OF TRASH COLLECTED IN SORSOGON COASTAL CLEAN-UP. The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Sorsogon headed by PENR Officer Tito R. Migo recently conducted a coastal clean-up activity in celebration of Month of the Planet Earth 2022 with the theme, “Invest in Our Planet”. The event was participated in by the barangay captains of Gubat, Sorsogon, representatives from the Women’s Group of barangays Buenavista and Ariman, some student volunteers from Bicol University Gubat Campus, and PENRO Sorsogon personnel. “This coastal clean-up activity is reflective of the collective effort of everyone who are willing to do something for the betterment of the future generations. As we create a ripple of change today through cleaning our coastal areas, this will serve as a leap towards environmental preservation,” PENRO Migo added. A total of 113 kilograms of solid wastes were collected after the clean-up activity. (With report from PENRO Sorsogon)
