DENR BICOL ATTENDS ToT8 ON THE APPLICATION OF THE WILDLIFE LAW ENFORCEMENT MANUAL OF OPERATIONS

Delegates from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) including the Bicol Region together with other national government agencies (NGAs), Local Government Unit of Cebu and the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) attended the 8th Training of Trainers (ToT8) on the Application of the Wildlife Law Enforcement Manual of Operations in Cebu City on September 23 to 29, 2018.

ToT8 was organized by DENR through the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) in partnership with USAID-Protect Wildlife Project and aimed to enhance the capacity of DENR personnel and other stakeholders in the enforcement of Republic Act 9147 otherwise known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act and relevant policies.

Some of the topics discussed include statistics on biodiversity, importance of Philippine wildlife, presentation of wildlife cases, physical and legal state of the wildlife environment from the perspective of the participants, the factors that brought about the present state and the common vision on where the physical and legal state of the wildlife environment should be, Wildlife Act, National Integrated Protected Areas System Act, Forestry Code among others.

A field training exercise was also conducted for the participants to apply their learnings.

With the conduct of ToT8, a pool of knowledgeable and skilled manpower in the government is expected to assist in curbing wildlife crimes in the country. (Article by: Jade N. Loria)

DENR BICOL PARTICIPATES IN THE 5TH FUN RUN FOR SEA TURTLES

Employees of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Albay together with other participants joined in the 5th Fun Run for Sea Turtles in Tiwi, Albay on October 27, 2018.

The fun run was organized by the Environmental Conservation Sustaining Tiwi’s Agri-Aqua Resources (ECOSTAR) Program of the Municipality of Tiwi and the Alternative Systems for Community Development (ASCODE) Foundation.

The fun run was conducted to raise awareness on the importance of marine turtles, which is becoming a cultural icon of the Municipality of Tiwi. According to the organizers, the fun run is a “physical expression of the desire and struggle to conserve and protect ecological resources.”

The DENR V enjoins the public to support such noble advocacies that will increase ecological awareness and conserve and protect our natural resources. (Article by: Jade N. Loria)
