The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Iriga headed by CENR Officer Herleo O. Pavericio recently conducted an outreach program to the women Indigenous Peoples (IPs) community at Barangay San Ramon, Buhi, Camarines Sur.
 
The outreach, which aims to highlight the significant contribution made by women in the community in the preservation and protection of the lakelets at Buhi Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) Protected Area, was one of the activities lined up by the office to celebrate the International Women's Day and National Women's Month with the theme, "WE for gender equality and an inclusive society."
 
The activity was participated in by the women, youth, and children of the IP community, barangay officials, and CENRO Iriga personnel.
 
During the program, the participants played games and received packed food and clothings. A tribute dance was also performed by the youth members of the IP community.
 
In her message, Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person Gemma L. Ampongan thanked the community, especially the women IPs for their unwavering support to the projects, programs and activities of the DENR. Likewise, she also expressed her hopes to further strengthen the relationship between the office and the community for the continuous preservation and protection of the lakelets of Buhi.
 
Moreover, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol Regional Executive Director Francisco E. Milla, Jr., emphasized that Women’s Month is a celebration that aims to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of all women around the world. "Through this celebration, we at the DENR hopes to help build an environment that provides equal opportunities to all Filipinos and equip them with skills to participate fully in an innovative and globally competitive economy," said RED Milla.
 
The month of March was declared as Women's Role in History by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 227 series of 1998. Moreover, Republic Act 6949 series of 1990 declares March 8 of every year as International Women’s Day. (With report from CENRO Iriga)###
