The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Sorsogon headed by PENR Officer Tito R. Migo conducted a coastal clean-up activity in celebration of the Month of the Ocean 2022 with the theme, “Protect and Restore Ecosystem and Biodiversity” on May 17, 2022.

The event was participated in by the representatives of Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP), residents of Panganiban, Gubat, Sorsogon, representatives from the Women’s Group, some students and youth volunteers, and PENRO Sorsogon personnel.

PENRO Migo extended his gratitude to the participants for supporting the call for coastal clean-up, which aims to protect and conserve our marine resources.

As a government agency, the DENR is mandated to craft and implement programs policies towards environmental protection but the Office cannot do it alone. We need the help and commitment of the community and other stakeholders to ensure that this planet will have greener forests and bluer seas,” he added.

Further, PENRO Sorsogon conducted a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign to the participants on the rationale of the Month of the Ocean,  effects of abuse to the environment caused by human behavior, and proper segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes.

A total of 71.25 kilograms of solid wastes were collected after the clean-up activity. (With report from PENRO Sorsogon)
