The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Catanduanes led by PENR Officer Imelda D. Baltazar simultaneously celebrated the 2021 International Day of Forest with the theme, “Forest Restoration: a path to recovery and well-being” and the 2021 World Water Day with the theme, “Valuing Water”, through their Tree Planting and Coastal Clean-up activities at Barangay Marilima, Virac, Catanduanes on March 22, 2021.

One hundred (100) Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) seedlings were planted at the Marilima Elementary School. Likewise, six (6) sacks of non-biodegradable wastes with an aggregate weight of approximately forty (40) kilograms were collected during the coastal clean-up activity. Moreover, the Office also disseminated some Information Education Campaign (IEC) materials on coastal and marine habitat protection and conservation, as well as proper disposal of facemask from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).

The Personnel from Municipal Police Station (MPS) Virac, Philippine Army, LGU Virac, Society of Filipino Foresters, Incorporated Catanduanes Chapter, PENRO Catanduanes, and Barangay Officials and some residents of Barangay Marilima participated in the said activities.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Catanduanes hung streamers and tarpaulins in support of the 2021 WWD celebration.

These annual environmental celebrations encourage replanting and recreating lost forests to return lost habitats to millions of plants and animals. It also highlights the importance of conserving water and its value. The focus extends to the environmental, social, and cultural values people place on water.
