A female Green Sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) was found dead on the shores of Basud, Camarines Norte on February 11, 2021 at Barangay Taba-taba, Basud, Camarines Norte.

The sea turtle was found by Mr. Fernando Ilan Jr. and Hector Magana who reported the incident to Basud Mayor Adrian Davoco who consequently relayed the report to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Camarines Norte under the leadership of OIC, PENR Officer Marlon C. Francia. Upon investigation, the Green Sea turtle has a curved carapace length of 1.2 meters and a width of 2 meters and weighs 50 to 60 kilograms. It was then immediately buried after the assessment with the assistance of the residents of the said barangay.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol headed by OIC, Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag is appealing to the public to help protect and conserve marine lives by maintaining the cleanliness of the coastal areas and practicing proper waste management to prevent solid waste to end up in our oceans, which can harm marine species. Further, any incidents involving marine species stranding should be reported to the nearest DENR office or through the official Facebook page of DENR Bicol. (With report from PENRO Camarines Norte)
