In celebration of its 73rd Founding Anniversary, the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) together with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) Camarines Sur recently unveiled the marker citing UNC as “Home of Century-Old Trees”.

The marker symbolizes the University’s efforts in nurturing the different century-old trees found inside the university and to encourage and promote the protection of these trees that will serve as inheritance to the students, faculty, and alumni of the UNC.

In a message by PENR Officer Grace L. Cariño delivered by TSD Chief Sapin, she stressed that the four (4) century-old trees in UNC should continue to be taken cared of not only because they offer several ecological benefits such as being large carbon storehouses that aids in the fight against climate change but also because they are rich representations of the cultural heritage of UNC and Naga City.  “These trees are witnesses to the many milestones of the university as it continues to work towards the protection of the environment and the promotion of cultural heritage through the protection of these century-old trees,” she added.

The event was graced by the School of Graduate Studies represented by the Academic Officials of UNC led by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Concurrent Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Romeo Sumayo, Vice President for Research, Extension and Linkages Nora Elizabeth Maniquiz, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Armin Fullante, and Vice President for Administration and Auxiliary Services Engr. Leon Palmiano and the PENRO Camarines Sur personnel.
