The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Sorsogon headed by PENR Officer Tito R. Migo celebrated the National Climate Change Consciousness Week with the theme, “Adapting for a Sustainable Future” on November 20, 2020.

A Coastal Clean-up at Barangay Caricaran, Bacon District, Sorsogon City in partnership with the Barangay Council and the Local Government Unit (LGU) was conducted. The celebration of the NCCW was participated in by the PENRO Sorsogon personnel and members of Response Activity Matrix (RAM) Guardians Elite Provincial.

The participants collected approximately 30 tons of biodegradable materials such as seagrass, driftwoods, coconut husks, coconut and coconut leaves and some 146 kilograms of non-biodegradable wastes, mostly, food wrappers, plastic containers, cigarette butts, plastic bottles and much more.

In her message, Technical Services Division (TSD) Chief, Ma. Fe P. Reganit highlighted the importance of the celebration in ensuring the cleanliness of the environment.

Meanwhile, RAM Guardians Elite Provincial assured that their organization will be committed in the protection and conservation of our natural resources.

Under the Presidential Proclamation No. 1667 issued in 2008, November 19 to 25 was declared as the Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week, in connection with National Environmental Awareness Month, National Clean Air Month and International Day for Persons with Disabilities. The proclamation aims to advance the general health and welfare of the citizen, to promote sustainable development of the economy and protect the natural resources for the benefit of future generations. Proper protocols were strictly observed during the activity.
