Three (3) bancas and four (4) pieces of abandoned Keels were apprehended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Camarines Norte led by PENR Officer Marlon C. Francia and Technical Services Division Chief Forester Ronnel B. Astor on April 3, 2020 at Barangay Masalongsalong, Mercedes, Camarines Norte.
A concerned citizen reported the alleged illegal activities at the DENR Facebook Page. Surveillance and investigation were conducted by the DENR PENRO Operatives before the confiscation and apprehension. The said proceedings were done in coordination with the Barangay Local Government Unit. Accordingly, the confiscated forest products were brought to the PENR Office at Barangay Pamorangon, Daet, Camarines Norte for proper custody and administrative confiscation proceedings.
Utilizing forest products as such without the requisite authorization permit from the Department is strictly prohibited in accordance with existing forestry laws.
The DENR appeals to the public to stop any illegal activity and report such to the nearest DENR Office, especially during this time of crisis.
Despite the occurrence of this health emergency, environmental laws shall be enforced and violators will be accordingly penalized. (With report from PENRO Camarines Norte)
