“Strive for a better 2020,” says OIC, Regional Executive Director Atty. Gill A. Aromin, CESO IV in his message during the 1st Quarter Management Conference (MANCON) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol held at the Hamada Hall, DENR Regional Office V, Rawis, Legazpi City on January 7, 2019.

OIC RED Aromin discussed the Marching Orders of DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu during the New Year’s Call of the Department last January 3, 2020. He emphasized that DENR will be closely providing the necessary technical assistance and will be working with the local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders to ensure the enforcement of its mandate in consonance with the major thrusts of Secretary Cimatu on clean air, clean water, solid waste management, among others. OIC RED Aromin said that Secretary Cimatu gave his orders to continue the water quality improvement and evaluation nationwide.

In addition, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) was ordered to continue its activities on responsible mining and introduce further ways of extraction and replace open pit mining including the conduct of review on benching plan. More so, protected area and coastal management will be given priority by the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) through the conservation and Development Division (CDD) of the regional offices.

Meanwhile, OIC Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Atty. Ronnel C. Sopsop presented the issues and concerns affecting the Technical Services, particularly the National Greening Program (NGP). He urged all Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs) together with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (CENROs) to work together and come up with mechanisms and strategies to ensure that all other 2020 targets of their respective offices are attained. According to ARD TS Atty. Sopsop, the NGP will continue with the goal of contributing to the present forest covers. He further stressed the need to speed up on the Rapid Land Tenure Appraisal (RLTA) targets of the Office.

Likewise, ARD for Management Services Engr. Eva S. Ocfemia discussed the pressing concerns of the Management Services on procurement, records management, and policy implementation, among others. ARD Ocfemia emphasized the effective delivery of services relative to the Freedom of Information (FOI), Anti Red Tape Act (ARTA) and other rules and regulations will be strictly monitored. She added that health and wellness programs for the employees will be initiated including career development programs.

In closing, OIC RED AROMIN is positive that DENR Bicol will attain its targets for the year with the cooperation and full support of all DENR Bicol personnel.
