The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol conducted a clean-up drive in support to the call of the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) and the Department of Health (DOH) to conduct a clean-up drive within the office premises of the member agencies of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) to get rid of Dengue mosquito breeding grounds.

The OCD came out with RDRRMC Resolution No. 1 declaring Blue Alert Status due to recorded dengue cases of 1,964 and 26 casualties which surpassed the threshold level in Bicol Region as reported by DOH. The Resolution enjoins all the members of the RDRRMC to conduct a clean-up drive during Fridays of the month of August observing the 4S of DOH to contain the spread of dengue virus.

Likewise, DOH declared a 4 o’clock habit of cleaning our surroundings to GET DENGUE OUT. DOH also encourages everyone to intensify the observance of the 4S against dengue: 1. Search and destroy breeding grounds, 2. Seek early consultation, 3. Self-protection, 4. Say yes to fogging in the event of impending outbreak.

In support to the RDRRMC Resolution, DENR Bicol OIC, Regional Executive Director Atty. Gil A. Aromin, CESO IV issued a Memorandum Order to all DENR Bicol field offices to conduct a clean-up drive within their respective office premises every Friday at 3 in the afternoon. Consequently, a massive clean-up in the Regional and Field offices of DENR are being done every Friday of August.

Ultimately, it is the obligation of every citizen to clean our surroundings starting from our own home because we want our family to be healthy and free from any sickness.###
