A Luzon Hornbill (Penelopides manillae) was released by OIC, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, Atty. Ronnel C. Sopsop and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) Officer of Albay Engr. Jerry R. Arena on March 21, 2021 at Mt. Masaraga Camp Site, Amtic, Ligao City as part of the celebration of 2021 International Day of Forest. The hornbill was found in the province of Sorsogon and was turnedover to the Camp site owner, Mr. Joel Ducante.

As part of the health and wellness program of the Department and in support to Memorandum Circular 2011-08 or the reiteration of “The Great Filipino Workout” Physical Fitness Program of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the Administrative Division headed by OIC, Chief Administrative Officer Dolores C. Vargas opens a Wellness Gym to its employees at the DENR Regional Office on March 29, 2021. The Ribbon Cutting ceremony was attended by Assistant Regional Director for Management Services, Engr. Eva. S. Ocfemia, OIC, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Atty. Ronnel C. Sopsop and Head Executive Assistant Atty. Ma. Lovella Diaz-Castro. The  gym is open to all DENR emplyees subject to the rules imposed by the Admin Division on the equal opportunity to access the gym. This is one of the several plans of the Department towards encouraging physical fitness to all employees to develop a healthy and alert workforce.
 
A MOA between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Malilipot in Albay was signed on March 29, 2021 at the ORED Conference Room, DENR V, Rawis, Legazpi City. The MOA aims to speed up the conduct of the verification, relocation and structural survey of Lot No. 1059 at Barangay Binitayan, Malilipot, Albay. The lot covers an area of 72, 4160 hectares more or less and has multiple claimants. The DENR Bicol through the Surveys and Mapping DIvision (SMD) headed by Engr. Josie A. Columna (in purple shirt) is hopeful that with the strengthened partnership with the LGUs, issues on Survey and Mapping of lots will be easily threshed out. 
 

To celebrate the 2021 International Day of Forests (IDF), the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of San Jacinto headed by OIC, CENRO Basil Cesar S. Camba in partnership with the members of Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity and Sorority based in Ticao Island conducted a Mangrove Tree Planting at Bongsanglay Natural Park (BongNP), Barangay Royroy, Batuan, Masbate on March 21, 2021. Around 26 volunteers participated and planted a total of 250 Mangrove propagules at the mudflat at Bongsanglay Natural Park.

In line with the celebration of this year’s World Water Day (WWD), around six (6) sacks of non-biodegradable wastes with an aggregate weight of approximately forty (40) kilograms were collected during the Coastal Clean-up spearheaded by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Catanduanes at Barangay Marilima, Virac, Catanduanes on March 22, 2021. With the theme, “Valuing Water”, the activity highlights the importance of conserving water and its value. The focus extends to the environmental, social, and cultural values people place on water.
