MINING AUDIT REPORT

Environment Secretary Gina Lopez presents to pro-mining advocates, comprised of students and mine workers from Zambales, Benguet and Surigao, a folder of mining audit documents, which she says are available for public scrutiny.  The rallyists trooped to the DENR on Monday, Feb. 13, to air their objection to the closure order issued by Lopez against 23 mining companies as this will result in the loss of their jobs while the student-rallyists called for the disclosure of the mining audit reports. ###

PRODUCT OF MINING

Students make better use of their cellphones, which they said are products of mining, in capturing the mining audit documents which DENR Secretary Gina Lopez has made available for their scrutiny.  The students, along with mine workers from Zambales, Benguet and Surigao trooped to the DENR on Monday, Feb. 13, to protest the issuance of closure orders to 23 mining operations for causing massive damage to the environment.  Lopez also took the opportunity to announce that the public can access the mining audit results at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.###

LOPEZ ENGAGES PRO-MINING ADVOCATES

REFERENCE FOR PHL WETLANDS AND CAVES

Dr. Vincent Hilomen (left), executive director for Priority Programs in Coastal and Marine of the  Biodiversity Management Bureau, opens the celebration of World Wetlands Day with the launching of Atlas of Philippine Inland Wetlands and Classified Caves (right), which, according to him, will “serve as a reference to assist the partners concerned in the protection and conservation of wetlands and caves.” The book launch, held at the BMB Training Center in Quezon City, coincided with the global celebration of World Wetlands Day on February 2. ###

GUIDE FOR YOUTH ECO-CAMPING

Ms. Amy Lecciones (left), vice president of the Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands (SCPW), Inc., leads the launching of the book Youth Eco Camp Training Manual (inset). The book, which was produced by the SCPW, is “a product of more than 10 years of refining,” according to Lecciones. The manual also serves as a guide for organizations on how to conduct environment-friendly camping for students and young individuals. ###
