A total of 240 kilograms of solid wastes comprising mainly of plastic bags and grocery packs were collected during the clean-up drive in celebration of the 2021 Earth Day along the Mangrove area at Sitio Fabmar, District No. II, San Jacinto, Masbate. The Cleanup Drive was participated in by the personnel of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) San Jacinto, Masbate headed by OIC, CENRO Basil Cesar S. Camba together with the local officials of District II, Philippine National Police (PNP), Alpha Kappa Rho Fraternity and Sorority. Tarpaulins were installed along the area as part of the IEC Campaign to intensify the awareness of the community on Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000”. Punong Barangay Lino Gobangco expressed his appreciation for the continuous effort of the DENR at helping their barangay. In turn, he pledged to frequently monitor and maintain the area, including the establishment of outpost for the Barangay Police to restraint illegal dumping of wastes at the Mangrove swamp. With the theme, “Restore our Earth; Be part of the Change”, Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection and to spread awareness among the communities about climate change and global warming.
