A Philippine Serpent Eagle (Spilornis holospilus) was turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Sorsogon by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon on January 25, 2021. The said species was turned over to LGU Prieto Diaz by a concerned citizen from Barangay Ulag, Prieto Diaz. The personnel of PENRO Sorsogon immediately inspected the wildlife and transported the same to the Irosin Temporary Wildlife Rescue Center (ITWRC) at Barangay Patag, Irosin, Sorsogon for treatment and rehabilitation before releasing it to its natural habitat. The DENR V is continuously appealing to the public to report incidents and turn over any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release to its natural habitat. Continuous information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns are being conducted by the DENR, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.
