About 0.50 cubic meters or 213. 96 board feet of tree stump and abandoned piled lumber of Narra species were accidentally found by the Technical Team of the Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) headed by CENR Officer Basil Cesar S. Camba on January 13, 2021. While conducting the laying of the 2-kilometer transect line for the Biodiversity Monitoring System (BMS) within the forest zone of Matang-Tubig Watershed Forest Reserve (MTWFR) at Barangay Real, Monreal, Masbate, the Team found the abandoned lumber. Following the inventory, the lumber were manually hauled and transported to the CENRO Office at San Jacinto, Masbate for proper safekeeping and administrative adjudication proceedings. CENR Officer Camba, being the concurrent Protected Area Superintendent (PASU) of MTWFR, strongly condemns the illegal act of cutting such priority species within the protected area. He appeals for the support of the barangay officials with jurisdictions around the watershed to be vigilant and be an active partner of the DENR in intensifying its information drive against illegal wood traders.
