The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol spearheaded the celebration of this year’s World Wildlife Day (WWD) with the theme, “Sustaining all life on Earth”. The celebration kickstarted with a tree-planting activity and release of eight (8) Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) at the Energy Development Corporation Bacon-Manito (EDC BACMAN), Sorsogon. A Quiz Bee Competition and Treasure Hunting participated in by some eight (8) high schools in Albay was held at the Albay Parks and Wildlife at Bogtong, Legazpi City. DENR V OIC, Regional Executive Director Atty. Gil A. Aromin expressed his gratitude to all who participated and contributed to the success of the celebration of the World Wildlife Day 2020. The WWD was also celebrated by the Field Offices of the DENR. Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Guinobatan in Albay, Iriga and Sipocot in Camarines Sur and CENRO Mobo and San Jacinto in Masbate. The field offices conducted a Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) Campaign in various schools. Moreover, various animals were also released back to the wild during the WWD. An Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) turtle and a Coleto (Sarcops calvus) was released by the CENRO San Jacinto.
