EXTENSION OF DEADLINE FOR NOMINATION OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES TO THE PROFESSIONAL MASTERS IN TROPICAL MARINE ECOSYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (PM-TMEM) BATCH 5
Title of the Course/Program PROFESSIONAL MASTERS DEGREE IN TROPICAL MARINE ECOSYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (PM-TMEM)
Course Details The program is designed for professionals who wish to pursue career tracks in government, civil service organizations and private sector involving the management and governance of tropical marine ecosystems. It focuses on the applied sciences for the development of professional skills and practical analyses of practitioners. This program will be implemented following a modular, sequential approach. A distinctive element of the PM-TMEM program is its integrative, transdisciplinary approach within and across the courses, with lectures and field components handled by various interdisciplinary teams of faculty, including local and international experts. The program culminates with the completion of an independent special project that addresses gaps in the management and governance of tropical marine ecosystems within the students' areas of responsibility.

September 2019 to February 2021. This program can be completed in one and a half years.

Qualifications

Please nominate applicant/s who possess/es the following eligibility requirements set by the DENR/BMB and the UP-MSI:

  1. Must have a Bachelor’s degree from a reputable CHED-accredited institution/s of higher learning;
  2. Must be holding a permanent position at the time of application with minimum of two (2) years work experience preferably from the thirty three (33) Marine Protected Areas (MPA) Sites under the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS), including Verde Island Passage (VIP) Marine Corridor and/or other relevant TMEM/coastal resource management;
  3. Must have served at least two (2) uninterrupted years of service on permanent status in the Department.
  4. Must have a rating of at least Very Satisfactory for two (2) immediate performance rating periods;
  5. Must have rendered the required service obligation for a scholarship previously enjoyed; and,
  6. Must be willing to sign a scholarship contract and serve his/her respective Agency/office based on the corresponding period of obligation upon completion/termination of the study/grant.
Documentary Requirements

Qualified candidates shall submit the following requirements to the Career Development Division-Human Resource Development Service:

  1. Nomination letter/Memorandum by the Head of Office (Region/Bureau/Director) addressed to the Secretary through the HRDS;
  2. Updated Service Record;
  3. Certification from the Chief, Administrative Division stating:
    1. That the applicant has No pending Administrative and/or Criminal Case;
    2. That the applicant has No pending Scholarship Nomination;
    3. That the applicant’s performance ratings for two (2) immediate rating periods were at least Very Satisfactory; and,
    4. That the applicant is physically and mentally fit to study/travel.
    5. Certification of actual duties and responsibilities (including past involvement) relevant to the course signed by the immediate superior; and
    6. Updated Personal Data Sheet.

Screening and selection of candidates shall be made by the DENR Scholarship Committee. Successful candidates shall also submit the following documentary requirements of UP Marine Science Institute:

  1. Letter of intent by the applicant addressed to the UP-MSI Director, Dr. Fernando P. Siringan, Graduate Office, College of Science, UP Diliman;
  2. Comprehensive curriculum vitae;
  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation; and
  4. Copy of transcript of Records and Diploma.
Deadline of Submission April 15, 2019
Remarks Successful candidates will be advised to proceed with the UP application process for admission and final acceptance to the program. The PM-TMEM Inter-UP Graduate Committee will evaluate all completed application documents and will schedule online/phone conference call interview. Classes will start on September 2019.
