BRTTH PPE April 2020

Over one million one hundred seventeen thousand two hundred nineteen (Php 1,117,219.00) pesos worth of cash, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and relief goods were distributed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol along with its line bureaus – the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) V and Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V in support to the frontliners and communities affected by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the Bicol Region. The said amount was used to purchase two hundred thirty-three (233) PPE sets, four hundred eighty-six (486) food packs, and over six hundred (600) bags of relief goods which were distributed to hospitals, Task Force officials stationed at the Local Government Units (LGU) and to selected Barangays around the region on April 22 to 24, 2020.

Along with this, the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc. (SFFI) Bicol and the DENR Bicol Multi-purpose Cooperative (DBMC) were also able to distribute a total of five hundred (500) bags of relief goods on April 19, 2020 at Barangay Mabinit in Legazpi City.

The assistance of DENR Bicol was made possible through the initiative of the DENR Employees' Union (DENREU) and DENR Bicol Officials and staff headed by OIC, Regional Executive Director Atty. Gil A. Aromin.

Meanwhile, the DENREU Regional Office and DENREU Camarines Sur Chapter were able to partner with the BCVR Prime Enterprise, a pharmaceutical company in Naga City, which supplied the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), through the Ateneo Law Student Government (AdNU-LSG) represented by Ms. Lowella Anna Abaño and Mr. Jomari Simando. The employees of DENR Bicol including the contractuals and job orders donated a portion of their salaries, which form part of the amount raised by the Office.

The purchased PPE sets were composed of washable hospital suits and shoe covers, N95 masks, disposable head caps and face masks, sterile gloves, medical goggles and disinfectant alcohol. Aside from the health workers, the DENREU Chapters regionwide were able to donate grocery packs to less previleged families in selected Barangays. Also, security guards, utility staff and drivers of the DENR Regional and Field Offices were also given relief goods and cash assistance from their respective offices.

The donation paved way for the Department to express its support and gratitude to the frontliners who are continually fighting against the COVID-19. The DENR Bicol hopes for the security and safety of the frontliners and communities who are at high risk from the virus.

Further, the PPE sets, food packs and relief goods were personally handed by the DENR Bicol Officials and DENREU Chapter Officials to their selected beneficiaries.
