DENR Bicol reports conviction of illegal wood charcoal traders

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Bicol cited that the recent conviction of two illegal wood charcoal traders for violation of Section 77 of Presidential Decree No. 705 otherwise known as the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines,would underpin its campaign against illegal wood charcoal trade in the region . 

Judge Roberto A. Escaro, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 38 of Daet, Camarines Norte has found Allan Rada and his co-accused Rosita Millares guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating Sec. 77 of PD 705 by possession of forest products without legal documents required under existing forest laws. 

Rada was apprehended by the police authorities at a checkpoint in Basud, Camarines Norte conveying twelve sacks of wood charcoal and forty pieces of uncut bamboos without legal document which were procured by his co-accused Millares last January 17, 2013. 

The two accused were meted with the indeterminate penalty of six months of arresto mayor as minimum to four years, two months and one day of pricion correccional as maximum. 

DENR Regional Executive Director Gilbert Gonzales reminds of his stern directive to our field officers to prosecute all those who shall be violating our environmental laws, to show to the public that we have strong resolve in putting a halt to this unscrupulous illegal trade particularly, illegal logging and illegal wood charcoal making.
