Director Gilbert C. Gonzales is new OIC DENR Regional Executive Director (RED) of Bicol.

He is a renowned authority in government anti-pollution enforcement, and served various government panels including the Pollution Adjudication Board. He has served the Department recently as Assistant Director of the Environmental Management Bureau and as Regional Director of DENR V Environmental Management Bureau.

His trainings encompassed key environmental concerns to include: climate change adaptation; geothermal development and its impact on the environment; diesel vehicle emission reduction strategies; emission monitoring; waste water and pollution control; hazardous and toxic wastes; environmental governance; air-shed protection; solid waste management; persistent organic pollutants; and water and air quality.

He has a Masters in Environmental Studies degree obtained from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia and undergraduate degrees in Civil; Sanitary, and Environmental Engineering.

Prior to joining DENR in 1988, he was a Pollution Control technician at the National Pollution Control Commission. He was with DENR V Environmental Management Bureau from 1989 to 2011.
