Regional Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force seizes 75,000 board feet of hot logs in Partido Area
Legazpi City—There is no letting up against illegal logging operators, as the Regional Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force (RAILTF) in Bicol Region has managed to apprehend at least 75,000 board feet (bd. ft.) of hot logs consisting of prime hardwood quality in Partido Area, Camarines Province.
DENR Bicol Regional Director Gilbert Gonzales said the RAILTF, which the director chairs, have been conducting follow-up operations in the said area after a successful apprehension of 20,000 bd. ft. of lumber in Tamban, Tinambac, Camarines Sur last July 2, 2014.
“The RAILTF is intensifying its effort to curb illegal logging operations in Partido Area and to bring into the arms of the law the perpetrators of such unscrupulous acts, currently we are reaping successful anti-illegal logging operations because the various law enforcement agencies of the government are backing us up,” Dir. Gonzales pointed out.
RD Gonzales said the joint task force is conducting sea-borne operations through the augmentation of Naval Forces of Southern Luzon’s (NAVFORSOL) floating assets for the past weeks and has apprehended illegally cut timber in several areas in Presentacion, Tinambac in Partido Area as well as in Sipocot, all in the Province of Camarines Sur.
The joint task force is a composite team of personnel from the Phil. Navy, Phil. Air Force, Phil. Army, Phil. National Police, National Bureau of Investigation and the DENR.
According to RD Gonzales, the DENR has filed complaints and information for violation of the Revised Forestry Code or Presidential Decree No. 705, as amended and violation of the Chainsaw Act or Republic Act No. 9175 against the individuals behind the illegal logging operations.
“This should serve as a fair warning against all illegal logging operators in the region that the RAILTF is on the hunt against them, and they will be prosecuted accordingly, so as to be held liable for all their trespasses against our environment,” he added.
Under Executive Order No. 23, the RAILTF is charged with the enforcement of the moratorium on cutting and harvesting of timber on natural and residual forests and lead the anti-illegal logging campaign under the supervision of the DENR.
