An injured albatross was rescued by the Department of Environment And Natural Resources Sorsogon Field Office and later turned over to the Albay Parks and Wildlife in Legazpi City.

Forester Annabelle Barquilla, spokesperson of Provincial Environment and  Natural Resources Office of Sorsogon said they dispatched a team to rescue the migratory bird after a concerned broadcast journalist reported that the same fell down on the farm in Bibincahan, Sorsogon City Last January 10, 2014.

Barquilla said the team had the migratory bird checked by the Provincial Veterinary Office whether it was free from avian influenza.

The local veterinarian found that the albatross has no avian flu, but is suffering from weak wing muscles due to prolonged long distance flying and malnourishment, also one of its webbed feet has a lesion.

A shot of vitamins to aid in health and appetite stimulation was given by the veterinarian's office to the migratory bird which later was turned over to the Albay Parks and Wildlife for further quarantine, feeding and treatment.

Prior to the incident, the DENR Bicol released an advisory of the start of the migratory bird census which commenced last January.
