NSWMC holds ecowaste management writeshop for Sorsogon LGUs

Aiming to fully involve local governments in the province of Sorsogon to implement an efficient and comprehensive solid waste management, the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) and the Environmental Management Bureau organized a provincial level writeshop on the development of a 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan last September 9-11, 2013 in Legazpi City.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Rene Camacho said the writeshop was pursuant to the assistance being offered by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the NSWMC and the EMB to LGUs in order for them to render compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

“Such endeavor shall empower these local governments to strengthen their capabilities and provide them with new insights on best practices in compliance to the eco-waste law,” PENRO Camacho emphasized.

He said participants were from technical working groups of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board and the City/Municipal Solid Waste Management Boards, which are tasked to compile the strategies and plans developed by each LGUs and create a more exhaustive plan for the province that will address the issues on municipal waste.

The output during the writeshop which is the integrated provincial SWM plan will be submitted to NSWMC for its approval.
