PNP Foils Group’s Plot to Extort from Lumber Dealer

Tabaco City- The Philippine National Police operatives arrest three men who identified themselves as DENR employees cum members of Eagle Force Task Force Kalikasan, Inc. as a business owner here prompts the PNP for the group’s repetitive extortion.

The suspects: Wilfredo Mercado Arenas, 56 years old, resident of Naga City; Antonio Valenciano Lomeda, 59, resident of Caloocan City; and Raul Pablo Osorio, 63, resident of Naga City are charged with extortion for attempting to demand money from a certain Denart Enterprises in Pawa, Tabaco City.  Based on an affidavit, Sheila Boticario, 33 said she was asked by these men documents of the establishment and cash in the amount of 20 thousand pesos. She sought police assistance that led to the SWAT Tabaco Central Police Station (CPS)’s arrest of the suspects at the place of the incident. Earlier, the owner of a Construction firm in Legazpi City who was admonished but refused to hand in cash coordinated with DENR Regional Office in order to verify whether or not it gave such order. The DENR immediately contacted the PNP Provincial Command sending alert signal to all PNP Stations, including Tabaco City CPS. When the Tabaco CPS received report about the incident at Denart Enterprises, they immediately sent operatives that led to the capture of the suspects. In order to evade arrest, the suspects handed a “Special Mission Order” that expired on January 25, 2013 issued by a “National Headquarters of Task Force Kalikasan to, among others: report, observe, remind, advise, inspect, to gather vital information, investigate and/or to arrest any persons committing a crime in your presence and to turn over to any government authorities”.

The suspects are currently under the custody of Tabaco CPS.

The public is warned against such act of deceit perpetrated by those who misrepresent themselves as DENR employees, said DENR Bicol Regional Executive Director Gilbert C. Gonzales.
