DENR INTER AGENCY TEAM CURBS ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES IN BUHI, CAMARINES SUR

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V headed by Engr. Guillermo A. Molina, Jr., IV., the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Camarines Sur led by PENR Officer Grace L. Cariño and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Iriga headed by CENR Officer Nestor Franz A. Fortuno in coordination with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headed by Executive Officer Rogel G. Intia of the NBI Naga District Office, Buhi Barit Watershed Area Team (BBWAT) under the leadership of Forest Guard Eleno Lavadia, III and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Buhi curbed the alleged illegal mining activity at Barangay Dela Fe, Buhi, Camarines Sur on July 23, 2019.

The Inter Agency Team executed and served the Search Warrant issued by Judge Manuel Rosales of RTC Iriga to Mr. Marlon Tabalde for violation of Republic Act 7942 otherwise known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995.

Allegedly, Mr. Tabalde has been operating for almost five (5) years without permit from the appropriate government agencies in three (3) quarry sites, particularly in Sitios Lapnig, Payron and Kalangatngan of Barangay Dela Fe.

The Team were able to seize one (1) unit backhoe in the area which is believed to have been used in its operation. The backhoe is now under the custody of Buhi Barit Watershed Area Team (BBWAT) at Sta. Justina, Buhi, Camarines Sur for safekeeping.

The DENR is taking actions to strengthen the enforcement of laws against illegal mining in Bicol in support to Secretary Roy Cimatu’s marching order to curtail all forms of illegal mining and the continuous enforcement of all environmental laws.

GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat. By virtue of Special Order 2019-07 dated January 7, 2019, Atty. Aromin will lead DENR Bicol replacing Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV who will also serve as RED of DENR Region 2.
