DENR BICOL CONDUCTS MONITORING OF CARAMOAN ISLANDS

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol led by OIC, Regional Executive Director Atty. Gil A. Aromin together with OIC, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) Officer Grace L. Cariño of Camarines Sur and Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENR) Officer of Goa Daisy M. Terciano conducted an environmental compliance monitoring in the islands of Caramoan, one of the top ecotourism destinations in the province of Camarines Sur.

The DENR monitored the compliance to Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, the state of biodiversity, specifically, the sighting of sea turtles and their hatchlings and other wildlife species and the presence of illegal structures in the area.

RED Aromin was in awe of the fine white sands, rock formations, and crystal clear waters of Matukad and Lahos Islands and vowed to continue to work on the protection and conservation of the natural resources in the islands of Caramoan in coordination with the local government units, beach resort operators, and the community.

GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat. Continuous information, education and communication (IEC) campaign is being undertaken by the DENR, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.*JNLoria###

DENR BICOL HAS A NEW GUARD. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol has a new guard in the person of Atty. Gil A. Aromin, CESO IV. By virtue of Special Order 2019-07 dated January 7, 2019, Atty. Aromin will lead DENR Bicol replacing Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV who will also serve as RED of DENR Region 2.
