ANTI-ILLEGAL LOGGING TASK FORCE CONFISCATES ILLEGALLY-SOURCED FOREST PRODUCTS IN BULAN

The Regional Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force (RAILTF) composed of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Office V - Enforcement Division, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Sorsogon, Bulan Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the elements of Naval Intelligence Security Unit (NISU) confiscated some 115 pieces or 650.79 board feet of forest products from Michael Gueta at Barangay Montecal, Bulan, Sorsogon on July 24, 2019.

Gueta lack the necessary legal documents required under existing DENR laws, rules and regulations.

The confiscated forest products are now under the custody of PENRO Sorsogon for safekeeping and for evidentiary purposes.

Administrative proceedings will be undertaken pursuant to Department Administrative Order (DAO) 97-32 or the Rules for the Administrative Adjudication of Illegal Forest Products and the Machinery, Equipment, Tools and Conveyances used in Connection therewith. The DENR is intensifying its campaign against violation of the Forest Code of the Philippines.***ARC

GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat. Continuous information, education and communication (IEC) campaign is being undertaken by the DENR, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.*JNLoria###

By virtue of Special Order 2019-07 dated January 7, 2019, Atty. Aromin will lead DENR Bicol replacing Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV who will also serve as RED of DENR Region 2.
