DENR BICOL EXECS PRESENT UPDATES ON THE ENVIRONMENT TO SORSOGON HEADS

 

Key officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) V, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Sorsogon convened with Sorsogon 1st District Congresswoman Evelina G. Escudero on July 16, 2019 in her residence in Sorsogon City.

 

PENR Officer Atty. Ronnel C. Sopsop presented the major programs of the DENR, which are implemented in the province. Meanwhile, EMB V Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Regional Director (RD) Maria Socorro A. Abu discussed the water and air quality and the pressing issues on solid waste management. MGB V OIC, RD Guillermo A. Molina, Jr. IV tackled the business firms who have pending quarrying and mining applications in the province.

 

DENR V OIC, Regional Executive Director (RED) Atty. Gil A. Aromin, meanwhile, assured that the environmental issues which are being faced by the province will be addressed promptly by the Office.

 

On the otherhand, Congresswoman Escudero stressed the importance of resolving the current issues on the environment not just in her area of jurisdiction but in the whole province of Sorsogon. She expressed her support to intensify the implementation of the programs, projects and activities of the DENR which will benefit the people and province of Sorsogon.

 

Moreover, the same key officials conferred with Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero at the Provincial Capitol of Sorsogon to abreast him of the environmental landscape of the province.

 

Governor Escudero shared his upcoming projects for Sorsogon, which will need the support of the DENR for its immediate implementation.*JNLoria

GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat. Continuous information, education and communication (IEC) campaign is being undertaken by the DENR, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.*JNLoria###

DENR BICOL HAS A NEW GUARD. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol has a new guard in the person of Atty. Gil A. Aromin, CESO IV. By virtue of Special Order 2019-07 dated January 7, 2019, Atty. Aromin will lead DENR Bicol replacing Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV who will also serve as RED of DENR Region 2.
