DENR BICOL TO PACC, STRICTER ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS IMPLEMENTATION

 

Key officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V has vowed to the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) that they will expedite all means of curbing crimes against the environment and the public.

DENR V Officer-In-Charge (OIC), Regional Executive Director (RED) Atty. Gil A. Aromin, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) V Regional Director (RD) Maria Socorro A. Abu, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V RD Guillermo A. Molina, Jr. IV together with the six Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PENROs) convened in a dialogue with PACC Chairman Dante La. Jimenez on June 13, 2019 at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office V, Arimbay, Legazpi City.

Various issues on the involvement of the public in environmental crimes were discussed into details. The PENROs shared updates on the action taken to address their respective concerns.  

PACC Chairman Dante La. Jimenez ordered the heads of DENR Bicol to expedite all means in curbing corruption and other crimes against the environment and the public.

DENR V OIC RED Aromin gave his assurance to Chairman Jimenez that the DENR will file cases against identified lawbreakers and to enforce a stricter implementation of environmental laws.*JNLoria

GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat. Continuous information, education and communication (IEC) campaign is being undertaken by the DENR, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.*JNLoria###

DENR BICOL HAS A NEW GUARD. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol has a new guard in the person of Atty. Gil A. Aromin, CESO IV. By virtue of Special Order 2019-07 dated January 7, 2019, Atty. Aromin will lead DENR Bicol replacing Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV who will also serve as RED of DENR Region 2.
