DENR BICOL BEEFS UP FOR REGIONAL BIODIVERSITY CHALLENGE SEASON 7

            The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Employees’ Union (DENREU) discussed into details the Regional Biodiversity Challenge Season 7 in the Bicol Region with its partner agencies such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on June 13, 2019 at the DENR V ORED Conference Room, Rawis, Legazpi City.

The Biodiversity Challenge or “Biodive” is a timed-race wherein physical and mental challenges are given to participating teams in the scenic spots of the Bicol Region. It is set on June 26, 2019 in Albay as part of the celebration of the Philippine Environment Month. Previous challenges include running, swimming, biking, boat-riding, tree-growing, coastal clean-ups, waste segregation, soil potting, mapping and even eating the famous sili ice cream.

This year, at least 13 stations with corresponding challenges were identified.

GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat. Continuous information, education and communication (IEC) campaign is being undertaken by the DENR, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.*JNLoria###

DENR BICOL HAS A NEW GUARD. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol has a new guard in the person of Atty. Gil A. Aromin, CESO IV. By virtue of Special Order 2019-07 dated January 7, 2019, Atty. Aromin will lead DENR Bicol replacing Regional Executive Director Atty. Antonio A. Abawag, CESO IV who will also serve as RED of DENR Region 2.
