DENR BICOL SPEARHEADS WORLD WATER DAY CELEBRATION

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Bicol, through the Conservation and Development Division (CDD) spearheaded the annual celebration of the World Water Day (WWD) on March 22, 2019.

With the global theme, “Leaving No One Behind” localized as “Hawak-Kamay, Tubig-Kaagapay”, this year’s celebration adopted the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with the aim to generate actions from various stakeholders to ensure access to safe water by 2030. It also endeavors to tackle the water crisis by addressing the reasons why so many people are being left behind.

DENR Bicol Regional Executive Director Atty. Gil A. Aromin said that the activities are aimed at raising the awareness of every Bicolano to save the natural resources, particularly our forests and water resources and to sustain development for the future generations to come.

“With the objective of increasing consciousness on the importance of water and the need to conserve our water resources, DENR Bicol pushes for a stronger Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign especially to the youth”, Director Aromin said.

To commemorate WWD, DENR Bicol conducted Slogan Making Contest and a Learning Event discussing Watershed Conservation and Management to Grade V and Grade VI students of Rebagay Elementary School, Maipon, Guinobatan, Albay.

The yearly conduct of this event is based on the proclamation of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 22, 1992 proclaiming every 22nd day of March as the World Day for Water. (Article by: JMM)
