PENRO CATANDUANES LEADS IN THE RELEASE OF A GREEN SEA TURTLE

A green sea turtle was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) of Bato, Catanduanes and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bato to the shores of Barangay Batalay, Bato, Catanduanes on Sunday, August 12, 2018.

The marine turtle which measured approximately 97 cm. long and 76 cm. wide was found on August 11, 2018 at Sitio Sukhan, Barangay Pananaogan, Bato, Catanduanes by local residents and was immediately rescued by the PNP and LGU and called PENRO Catanduanes for its inspection and release.

Since marine turtles and mammals are protected under the Philippine law and catching them is punishable by imprisonment, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to turn over any wildlife to authorities who can release them to their natural habitat. Continuous information and education campaign is being done by the agency, which have caused increasing numbers of public turn overs to the office.
