GREEN SEA TURTLE RELEASED IN VIRAC, CATANDUANES

A green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), locally known as Pawikan, was released by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Catanduanes together with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes to the shores of Barangay Capilihan, Virac, Catanduanes on August 5, 2019.

The Pawikan which measured approximately 51 centimeters (cm.) long and 47 cm. wide was found in Barangay Antipolo, Bagamanoc by Richard Cabrera, a fisherman in the said barangay, and turned-over to the office for its inspection and release.

Moreover, this is the ninth recorded release of marine turtle this year in the province of Catanduanes.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V continuously calls on the public to report such incidents and turnover any wildlife to proper authorities for proper handling and release them to their natural habitat.
